This is easily one of my favorite games of 2019. I just finished it and i'm already excited to play it again. If you're a fan of Inkle, adventure games, or unique sci-fi settings do not let this game pass you by!. As a fan of interactive narrative fiction, I was curious to try the innovative gameplay described in the product page. What I wasn't prepared for was becoming obsessed with it! A modern mystery tied to the deep past, rather than the usual inventory-item-unlocks-narrative paradigm, Heaven's Vault only gives you the parts of the story that you, as an archaeologist, uncover or translate. The world building is deep and satisfying. The only negative I have to offer is that the ending felt just a little weak after 25 hours of gameplay building to it, but I will say that the ending felt very natural as opposed to a contrived doomsday scenario with multiple explosions. That said, I think the game is a true innovative standout. Inkle has just gone on my "must watch" list of studios.. It's very good.Decoding the ancient language is a delight. The characters are well written and engaging, and I get the impression that there's more variety in them than I saw in a single playthrough. It's also a very odd game. It's not exactly that the game breaks "the rules". It's more like the game doesn't recognise that there ARE rules. In a way, it feels like it belongs to an earlier age, when new genres were being forged. I don't think this is the product of accident or naivete. It reminds me of experimental games like Trinity (1986) and Blue Ice (1996), though it's a great deal more accessible than either. It's not completely perfect.I started playing before the first patch came out, and there were plenty of quirks and janks and gremlins along the way. I gladly forgave most of them, though. The design may be bold, occasionally disconcerting and elliptical... but the heart of the game is just good, straightforward storytelling. And it does that really well.. You know these 'archeology games' where the language puzzles are so obvious that they are just an insult to your intelligence.Heaven's Vault is completely different. In fact the first translation you see is given without any hints whatsoever what the characters might mean. You just have to guess. Like you would in real life. And then find more pieces that refer to the same words or symbols, and refine your guesses, or realize that you gone down a completely wrong route. As time progresses and your list of words grows you start to see patterns and after a while it becomes easier and easier to recognize unknown words. After about 300 words I would say I have a 99% accuracy rating now. This deduction is extremely satisfying, and once you can read a word made out of a dozen characters you feel like you accomplished something real. The story also is pretty well thought out. At the start it makes little sense, and even at the end of the first walkthrough you might feel there are bits that still don't quite add up. But as you play repeatedly you gain more information and eventually the whole world and history will come together and make perfect sense. Now this game might not be for everyone- The game is slow, very slow. There is a lot of slow walking and sailing. Personally I don't mind this as there is constant banter between the main character and her sidekick robot during those long walk but some people might find this frustrating.- You will not know the full story after the first walkthrough. Or the second, or the third even. As with real archeology, there will always be unanswered questions, guessed, false premises, etc. But that is part of the game and it will encourage you to play again, try different approaches, see if the findings across multiple timelines confirm each other or not, etc.. As a fan of interactive narrative fiction, I was curious to try the innovative gameplay described in the product page. What I wasn't prepared for was becoming obsessed with it! Inkle has just gone on my "must watch" list of studios.. Score:8.5\/10Time: 8-15 hours (main request only),20-40 hours (a language learned)Summary:An excellent game but requires a little patience, which will give you a new experience of flying around a beautiful world, study a lost language, explore the history of a universe as a pirate-like archaeologist and decide what is your story.Cons:1. Too slow! when you want to translate something and gather more information from the trader, the scholar and other people. Gathering these inscriptions and trying to translate more are torturing me.2. There are some events requesting some relics, but if you hesitate you lose the chance when you have multiple choices of dealing with these relics.3. There is no dictionary or inventory inside the UI\/game showing the words and relics you collected, and the timeline is sometimes inconvenient notwithstanding the timeline is good for sorting out the history of the Nebula. 4. No turning back to a moon that you haven't explored thoroughly.5. Few side quest.6. No free exploration chance after the game ends.7. Start+ mode is not as is expected, what we need is to move faster, skip talking and rewind time, which will help learn new things about the language and the history or get a new ending. This made this game quite a one-time game.8. No tutorial for conversations.Pros:1. Good story.2. Excellent art and music.3. Open story throughout the game.4. Easy for players to get hold of the past of entire universe of Nebula.5. There are humor hidden throughout the game.6. A new language learned. p.s. The fight with Aamir really LMAO.(From a Sorcery! series player.) The Space Birthday Update: Upgraded AI & Reworked Alarms: This post is about a feature of the free Space Birthday Update, out now! Let Defunct Games take you through Heaven's Vault!: Awesome video review: 8 minutes but it gets to the heart of it straight away.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDTHH6BQ3QI. PC World play the Heaven's Vault demo - four times: Over on PC World, they've taken the demo level of Heaven's Vault that we showed at PAX East and Rezzed and played through it - four times. "Inkle told me they’d seen four people run the demo and it played out four different ways. Having now run the demo four times myself, I believe them..."https://www.pcworld.com/article/3268992/gaming/heavens-vault-preview-inkle.html"What’s most amazing about Heaven’s Vault though is that every path feels valid... It’s—and I don’t say this lightly—like nothing I’ve ever played before... Safe to say Heaven’s Vault is one of my most anticipated games of 2018, and Inkle one of the most exciting studios working today.". Heat Signature is out!
